Today I filmed some ‘make-up tutorial’ style videos of me instructing, via my webcam sat in my bedroom, how best to apply acrylic paint as make-up. The idea came to me after watching Paul Kindersley’s parody make-up tutorial videos. I watched some examples of genuine tutorials on YouTube before I started so as to observe phrases, gestures, structure etc. I was astonished at how long they were, and how much product they used for an ‘every-day look’.

The footage I’ve ended up with focused on the current trend of contouring (applying makeup as highlights and shading to accentuate natural contours) on abs, chest, back, neck and face. The resulting footage is over 30 minutes long so will require a lot of editing.

I have other ideas for instructional style videos inspired by the idea that the YouTube, and indeed the internet, can answer any question. I hope to have enough time to explore these.
